Gerontology

Social gerontology is the study of the social lives of older people, the meanings attached to aging, social inequality, retirement, health, caregiving, and breavement. Social gerontologists are interested in questions like

  1. "How is the everyday life of an older person the same or different from that of a younger person?
  2. How do older people make meaning of their world and their lives?
  3. How is age a reflection of social expectations? Does that change for older people?
  4. How does age affect our personal relationships?
  5. How do we see ourselves as people as we age?
