So what do sociologist's DO? We study human activity and try to find explanations for why people do what they do. This makes for a very broad field
of study, so sociology is broken into subfields, more or less along the lines of the chapters in your textbook. We might study gender, or race, or science
or deviant behavior, medicine, or criminal justice, or just about anything else. If people do it, there is a sociologist somewhere who studies how and why.
One of the tools used by scientists to explain their research findings is theory - A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena,
especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions. I have included links in the left hand column
that will help you understand social theory and its uses. There are also links to the textbook web site, which has practice test questions and other resources,
as well as some additional pages that you can explore on your own to better understand Sociology.
